Tea of the Week for September 2, 2024!
Crème brûlée is one of my all-time favorite desserts. If I were pressed to name just one favorite, like, my king of all desserts, I think crème brûlée would be it. That crackly, burnt sugar crust that adds a lovely hint of crunchy texture to the smooth, rich, decadent, creamy baked custard. It truly is – in my opinion – a bite of heaven on earth.
I also don’t think I need to tell anyone that Earl Grey is probably one of my favorite teas. I don’t know if it’s my king of teas, but it is definitely in the royal family.
So it seemed only natural to me that I should combine these two favorites: a rich Earl Grey black tea with smooth, creamy crème brûlée. I don’t know why it took me this long to craft this tea – it’s been on my list of ideas since before I took over 52Teas, but there it is. It was always overlooked for other things – but I’m so happy to finally create this tea!
This came out just as decadent & delicious as I hoped it would. In every sip, I taste that tangy bergamot, but I’m also getting creamy custard-y notes as well as a hint of burnt sugar. A perfect Grey Brûlée!
It’s also organic, vegan, gluten-free, allergen-friendly & all natural!
organic ingredients: black teas, calendula petals, burnt sugar candy (cane sugar & natural flavors), cold-pressed oil of bergamot, vanilla bean & natural flavors
to brew: be sure to give the pouch a shake before you measure your tea to ensure that all the ingredients are well-incorporated. The candy crystals are small – as are the teeny, tiny vanilla beans – & they are prone to shift their way toward the bottom of the pouch!
Use 3g of tea to 12oz of nearly boiling water (205°F), steep for 3 minutes & strain. Allow to cool for at least 10 minutes to allow the flavors to develop fully. Enjoy!
serving suggestion: I tend to prefer my Earl Grey teas (including this one) served hot. I know that there are those that swear by it served iced (including most of my boba haunts) & I get that, it’s great iced too, but I prefer this one served hot. I do let it cool for that aforementioned 10 minutes so that the flavors can develop, but this tea is so cozy & gives a very autumnal vibe – so I like it hot. Add a drop of milk of choice for an even creamier flavor. A wee bit of sugar will bring out those more subtle flavors, particularly that of the burnt sugar.
