Countdown to Catching Up, Part 2 – Tea 3 (Counting Down from 10 to 1!)
Wow! This was a tea that was kind of a gamble for me, mostly because I wasn’t sure if I’d like the combination of elderberries & cherries. I mean, I love cherries but as far as elderberries go, I do like the occasional elderberry smoothie when it’s “elderberry season” for my local smoothie purveyor. However, it’s still not a frequent indulgence for me, because I don’t typically go out for smoothies – it’s kind of expensive & if I want a smoothie, I usually have the ingredients on hand so I’ll just make one. So, I maybe have an elderberry smoothie maybe once a year, if that. That said, I do enjoy elderberry smoothies when I do get that chance to indulge.
All that was to say that I wasn’t really sure how elderberries & cherries would come together in one drink, but I must say this is really quite nice. The light, fruity green rooibos base is perfect for a drink like this one – it enhances the fruity flavors while providing a smooth, sweet base for the tart flavor of elderberry & the sweet-tart notes of the cherry without the whole concoction tasting like cough syrup.
To the green rooibos base, I added lots of freeze-dried cherries & elderberries. For the final touch, I added some vegan honey essence to add a smooth, sweet note to the overall cup. This is so pleasant to sip. It makes a stunning iced tea & a lovely, comforting hot cuppa. So, no matter how you want to drink it – this tisane is sure to please! It’s also organic, vegan, gluten-free, allergen-friendly & naturally caffeine-free!
organic ingredients: green rooibos, cherries, elderberries & natural flavors
to brew: shake the pouch to ensure that the flavors are well-incorporated. Use 3 ½ grams of tea to 12oz of very hot water (190°F), steep for 10 minutes & strain. Enjoy!
serving suggestion: this tea is fantastic served without any sweetener at all – there is a natural sweetness to the cup that is enhanced with the honey essence (don’t worry, it’s vegan!) If you prefer a sweeter cup, this tea takes a bit of sweetener well & the fruity notes will pop even more with that addition. It’s great served hot or iced, but I think I prefer it iced!
