The 11th Tea of Christmas!
I have to admit, it really surprised me when this tea won the votes to earn its way into this year’s 12 Teas of Christmas box. Why? Because it was also in last year’s box! I’m not complaining though, it’s one of my favorite genmaicha blends! I love the combination of flavors: crisp, cool peppermint with marshmallow & a smooth green tea base & let’s not forget about the roasty-toasty notes of the rice from the genmaicha. It all goes together so delightfully. It’s a fun medley of flavors that’s perfect for the holiday season!
I stuck true to the recipe: I started with genmaicha, added peppermint leaves & marshmallow root, a couple of vanilla beans & then I cut up organic, vegan & gluten free candy canes to the mix.
The marshmallow is coming through so clearly – I can taste the melty, sticky marshmallow-y taste that you get from a marshmallow treat (aka rice crispy treats). I also get a pleasant, crisp note of peppermint. It’s sweet, it’s well-flavored & I’m quite proud of this reblend effort!
I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I am enjoying it!
organic ingredients: green tea, toasted/popped rice, marshmallow root, peppermint leaves, candy canes (cane sugar, brown rice syrup, natural peppermint flavor, color derived from fruit sources), vanilla beans & natural flavors
to brew: shake the pouch well. The bits of candy cane, peppermint leaves & teensy-tiny vanilla beans tend to settle toward the bottom of the pouch & you want to give the pouch a shake to ensure that those yummy ingredients make their way into your measurement! Use 3g of leaf to 12oz of hot water (175°F) & allow tea to steep for 2 minutes. Strain & allow the liquid to cool for at least 5 minutes (this allows the flavors to develop!) enjoy!
serving suggestion: there is some natural sweetness to this blend from the bits of candy cane (that melt as it steeps) as well as the vanilla & peppermint. So I encourage you to taste it before you add additional sweetener so you don’t oversweeten it. Because this is a dessert tea, I do add just a teensy bit more sugar to it (usually about a quarter of a teaspoon, just enough to enhance the overall flavor of the marshmallow because I like marshmallow!) but to be totally honest, it’s really good without the additional sweetener too!
