Tea of the Week for August 29, 2016!
Well, it's Retro Monday once again and this month, the winning votes went to Cherry Almond Gunpowder (it was a pretty close race though!) So here it is! A blend of organic Chinese gunpowder green tea blended with whole, freeze-dried cherries and sunflower seeds. I use the sunflower seeds to give a "nutty appearance" but the flavoring is cherry and almond - and even though we used almond flavoring, it's tree-nut free so those who are allergic can drink with worry!
The original description for this tea goes like this:
My wife has been asking me for this blend for months. Sometimes I ask her what I should blend next. She likes to throw out ideas, and most of the time, I say, “Nah,” which irritates her to no end. “Why do you ask my opinion if you never listen to it?” Well, wifey of mine, I do listen. I don’t always act immediately, but I do consider everything you say.

Anyway - I really enjoyed this tea when it was first released so I was excited (and also a little nervous) to reblend it. Excited because I enjoyed it - but nervous because cherry can be a tricky flavor to execute. It sometimes ends up tasting more like cough syrup than the juicy, sweet-tart fruit that it should taste like. But as I sit here, sipping on this, I don't really taste much medicinal flavor - I am tasting cherry and I'm tasting almond. I'm really enjoying the nutty notes to this, the natural nutty tones of the gunpowder tea melds really well with the almond tones.
Sweet, nutty and really delicious!
