Tea of the Week for March 27, 2017: Strawberry Genmaicha!
Posted by on
Tea Description: We've been known to create some pretty unique Genmaicha blends - and we plan to keep on creating those - but we thought it might be nice to try something a little simpler - something straightforward yet delicious! We take our Genmaicha infused with Matcha and blend it with the sweet, juicy flavor of strawberries to bring you this delightful tea treat.
The nutty, roasty-toasty flavor of genmaicha mingles beautifully with the lusciously sweet flavor of strawberry - yeah, it might be not be a marshmallow treat or coconut flan - but it is so berry delicious!
organic ingredients: green teas, popped rice, freeze-dried strawberries and natural flavors
I made several different genmaicha blends around the holidays so I took a little break from them (only a couple of months!) but I wanted to come back strong! This is a little simpler than most of our genmaicha blends but what it lacks in creativity it more than makes up for in flavor. I love the way the genmaicha marries with the strawberry here - it's sweet with bright strawberry flavor and it has that berry tingle toward the finish that lingers long into the aftertaste. The toasty flavor of the genmaicha is sweet and nutty and smooth.
One of my first reactions to this tea was 'it tastes like strawberry toast'! And it kinda does!
It's smooth, the little bit of matcha infused into the genmaicha gives the body of the tea a slight creaminess. The green tea is buttery and lightly vegetal.
A really tasty tea!
to brew: use 1 tsp of leaf to 12 ounces of hot water (175°F) and let steep for 2 - 2 1/2 minutes. I went with 2 1/2 minutes - the extra 30 seconds doesn't impart any bitterness but it does extract some more strawberry flavor. Strain and let cool for 5 minutes.
